What is PC (Polycarbonate)?

Polycarbonate (PC) is an amorphous thermoplastic engineering plastic known for its high transparency and excellent impact resistance. Other notable features include outstanding heat resistance, dimensional stability, and self-extinguishing properties.

However, since PC contains ester bonds in its molecular structure, it is susceptible to chemical attack from substances such as alkalis, oils, and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. In high-temperature and high-humidity environments, it may undergo hydrolysis, which degrades its mechanical properties.

Typical Molding Conditions for PC:
Pre-drying: 115–125°C for 3–5 hours
Resin temperature: 280–320°C
Mold temperature: 80–100°C

PC is also known for its compatibility with alloying (blending) with other plastics, making it easy to enhance specific properties. By combining various features, PC has become a high-performance plastic material that meets the needs of a wide range of applications, and its demand continues to grow.
