This is a molding case study of a component for OA (Office Automation) equipment made from a PC alloy material. This product required a strict dimensional tolerance of φ11.8. During molding, there was a risk that the opening side would shrink due to thermal effects caused by inward deformation, making it impossible to meet the required dimensional tolerance because the size of the opening would become smaller.
As a countermeasure, we adjusted the mold during tuning so that both ends would fall within tolerance, and also considered enhancing cooling of the core area before beginning mass production.
