This is a molding case study for a measuring equipment component. As this molded part is used in a pre-assembly process, the center boss feature is a critical area for mating with the corresponding component. The drawing specified strict roundness geometric tolerance and dimensional tolerance within a 30 μm range. In addition, because the boss section had a thick-wall structure, there was a concern about sink marks appearing on the top surface. To address these challenges, the mold cooling structure was carefully optimized, and the mold was refined through repeated trial-and-error adjustments.
